It is basic for people to take a bath everyday, most especially if we go out for work or do our daily errands, but how about our babies? Some parents who are concerned about their babies getting exposed to bacteria or dirt might prefer to give their babies a bath daily but the truth is, they only need about one to two baths every week most especially the newborns.
Giving our newborns frequent baths may cause more harm than good because they have sensitive skin. It might just dry out their skins or worse, they can develop skin problems like eczema. You just need to pay attention to areas that need regular cleaning like his neck, chin and face specially during times when he burps out milk after feeding. Regular change of diaper is also needed and when you do so, use a clean washcloth to make sure that his groin, thighs and folds are cleaned well but gently.
When they reach 6 months, they are already on the stage where they start eating solid food and make a huge mess so obviously, frequent trips to the tub is more likely to happen. Some babies love relaxing feeling of warm water and the gentle massages you give them while they are getting sponged down. This creates a great bonding time between you and your little one. Of course, make sure that everything he uses, from his towels down to his mittens are 100% clean!
